Dr. Paul Steinberg, founder

Paul Steinberg, Ph.D. is an award-winning author and professor of environmental policy at Harvey Mudd College, one of the world’s top institutions for science education.  In his 20 years of teaching public speaking classes, he has provided detailed feedback on over 2,000 talks on topics ranging from string theory to immigration policy.  He is the recipient of teaching awards from Duke University and the University of California, and was awarded the prestigious Deborah Gerner Award for Innovation in Teaching from the International Studies Association.

Unlike most public speaking coaches, Paul is a leading expert in his field of research, with two books published by MIT Press and another by Oxford University Press.  He understands that the content of your talks can be extremely complex.  He enjoys taking a deep dive with clients to distill and clarify the most important ideas and to make these exciting for any audience.

Paul’s formal training includes an undergraduate degree in biology from UC Santa Barbara, a master's in public policy from Harvard, and a Ph.D. in environmental studies from UC Santa Cruz.  Paul has extensive experience outside of academia, and has held positions with The World Bank Research Group, RARE (where he served as founding Director of Policy and Governance), Conservation International, Bendix Environmental Research, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and others.  He wrote and directed the award-winning animated film “Who Rules the Earth?,” which transforms a complex idea from the social sciences into a 10-minute story for general audiences.  A tenured full professor, he holds the Malcolm Lewis Chair of Sustainability and Society at the Claremont Colleges.
